Bird Paradise

At four hundred and thirty two confirmed bird species, Carara National Park offers an unparalleled experience in sound and color accompanied by our technology. Bird watching takes on a whole new dimension where you can immerse yourself deep into the song and detail every note.

Birds found in Carara include scarlet macaws, orange-chinned parakeets and other parrots, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, motmots, jacamars, manakins, antbirds, and several species of trogon, including the Northern black-throated trogon. Several species of water birds inhabit the park as well. These include the anhinga, several species of heron, egret and kingfishers.

Primary Rainforest & Transitional Forest

Carara National Park is 20 square miles long, and holds even more primary Rainforest than Manuel Antonio National Park, boosting its diverse fauna that extends from reptiles like the black poison arrow frog, crocodiles, and fifty two species of snakes to mammals including two types of deer, monkeys, two and three toed sloths, kinkajous, pumas, collared peccaries among others. 

As a transitional forest between dry and rainforest, Carara offers an unique experience where flora and fauna meet in this amazing conversion and great a one of a kind environment, the park is the only one in the country that has an universal access trail, opening the opportunity to experience this miraculous forest to all.
