Located on the Guanacaste Volcanic Mountain Range, just 9 kilometers from Bijagua and 28 kilometers from Guatuso, Alajuela. The national park protects a territory of 18,402.27 hectares home to high density flora, high diversity of palms, heliconias, ferns, bromeliads and orchids, among others. As for the trees, the aguacatillos, sapotes, pilón, lauráceas, marías, oaks and the jícaro danto stand out, which is endemic to this mountain range.
With high density flora and high levels of downpour you can expect a large number of animals calling home, and some of the most notorious predators that roam the country. Among the fauna present are: Puma (Felis concolor) Jaguarundi (Felis yagouaroundi) Danta (Tapirus bairdii) Saino (Tajacu pecari) White monkey (Cebus capucinus) Manigordo (Leopardus pardalis) Guatusa (Dasyprocta punctata) Caucel (Leopardus wiedii) Tepezcuintle (Agouti paca) Tolomuco (Eira barbara) Peacock (Penelope purpurarcens) the Umbrella Bird (Cephalopterus glabricolis) the Sun Bird (Eurypyga helias).
Through it you can visit the main attractions of the Park, such as the waterfall, the viewpoint, the blue lagoon, the borbollones (fissures and cracks through which, at high temperature, gases from the volcanic activity of the place escape) and the Teñidero, which is the point where the phenomenon that gives the river the light blue coloring effect begins. From many other sectors you can see the turquoise color of the water, but this is the only place where the change in color can be seen.

Originally utilized for mule breeding and coffee cultivation, the land has evolved over time, passing through the hands of various families finding its way to the Hacienda Montezuma stretches across 1,000 hectares of protected secondary forest between the Miravalles and Tenorio volcanoes and forms a significant biological corridor for a wealth of native flora and fauna. Days are spent immersed in the rhythms and rituals of farm life, riding out with the sabaneros, wildlife tracking, jungle hiking and enjoying mountainside picnics and lakeside siestas. The peace and tranquility found here is rare in the chaos of daily life and it offers a precious opportunity to unwind, rest and reflect in a place with soul.
